June 20, 2021

GRAD GAB

  • THIS TUESDAY! Grad Ceremony – The key details are:
      • Students will be able to have up to four people (parents/guardians/family/friends) watching them cross the stage;
      • Grads will be grouped in alphabetical order by last names, with 25-30 grads crossing the stage in 45 minute intervals;
      • The attachment below has a chart with times that Grads should be arriving, as well as where Grads and guests are to meet;
    • Please see the attachment for more details of what the Grad ceremony will look like on Tuesday, June 22: Grad Info Sheet June 2 2021 UPDATE
  • THIS WEDNESDAY! Grad Walk – Wednesday, June 23 will be our annual Grad Walk! While we will only be able to walk the halls at LSS this year, it will still be a memorable event, ending with a cap toss in the New Courtyard! All Grads should bring their caps and gowns to the school; we will meet at the Lacrosse Box at 11 am, and be ready for the Walk to start by 11:20 am.
  • A Message from the Dry Grad Committee:
    • Hello Grade 12 Families!
    • It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of the year already and our children are graduating highschool!  We should all be very proud of the hard work and dedication it has taken to stay engaged and complete this momentous year considering all that we are facing as a global society.  As parents we all deserve a pat on the back for all the support and encouragement we have shown our children through the years bringing us to this precipice.  Good job everyone!
    • The LSS Dry Grad Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents who have contributed to being able to purchase a parting gift for our 2021 LSS Grads.
    • We raised over $10,000 between our Go Fund Me page, car wash, bottle drive, Clearview Hanging Basket Fundraiser, Langley Liquor Warehouse, LSS PAC Donation and Return-It account!  Well done team!
    • With the money raised we were able to provide the mini golf and lawn games for the LSS Grad BBQ that the school organized.  We were also able to purchase a main parting gift with some extra goodies to go along with it.  It was challenging to come up with a gift for all grads that would be meaningful, useful and hopefully stand the test of time but I think we came up with something that fits all those parameters.  It definitely does not replace the group activities that are so important and memorable for children in their graduating year but, let’s face it, who’s going to forget 2020-2021!
    • We are also able to provide a specialized thank you cookie to all the staff at LSS who are so important to our children’s academic success.  The staff at LSS have always been a great stabilizing force for our LSS community during a “normal” year but over the last two years they have gone above and beyond to keep school safe and consistent for our kids.
    • The grad gifts will be presented at the graduation ceremony after your child crosses the stage on June 22nd so I hope everyone is able to attend.
    • Thank you, from your LSS DRY GRAD COMMITTEE!

  • The Grad Amazing Race this past Friday capped off a very busy month for Grad events, as we build towards the Graduation Ceremony this week. Students had various quests and challenges to complete that, quite simply, were a lot of fun for everyone involved! See below to get a sense of the activities, as well as for examples of how LSS is using its new courtyard! Thanks once again to the efforts of Mr. Rowe and Grad Council, as well as all of the staff who helped out after school on Friday!

REMINDER: JUNE 22 – AT-HOME HYBRID LEARNING FOR GRADES 9-11

  • The Graduation Ceremony this year, to be in-line with the PHO guidelines, will be held at LSS in the small gym, on June 22, from 9 am to approximately 4 pm. To facilitate this Ceremony, all students in Grades 9-11 will be AT HOME on this day, June 22, for online, hybrid learning.

MINISTRY COVID SURVEY

IN THE CLASSROOM…

  • ELD 11 students working together to learn about microaggressions, which is a concept that’s mentioned in our current novel study. They first had to read an article describing what microaggressions are, which also contained strategies for how we can work to stop subjecting others to them. Then in small groups, they had to match examples of microaggressions with the implicit bias behind them, and the overall impact they have on the person who is being discriminated against.
  • This week the amazing Langley Learning Farm, WAVE 12, and Environmental Science crews finished their last volunteer shifts. If you can recall the open field that was here before LSS students got to work, you’ll know the space has been transformed! Here are a couple of photos of volunteers and what it looks like now. Congrats to all students and a big thank you to LEPS coordinator Amanda Smith for making this such a positive opportunity! We look forward to further exploring and developing this space together next year.
  • Here are some photos from the AVID 12 portfolio/Capstone presentations on Wednesday, celebrating four years of growth, resiliency, and determination!
  • Mr. Fauteux’s grade 11 AVID students finishing the year strong while presenting their growth portfolios to various staff. They knocked it out of the park!

  • And what a countdown it was! This past week had an amazing array of events and activities put together by our amazing Leadership class and the teachers Ms. Sewell and Mr. Howlett.
