VISUAL ARTS 09: GENERAL (MVA09)

This is an introductory course designed for students with an interest in art.  The emphasis is on exploring a variety of areas including drawing, design, painting, art history, colour and three-dimensional projects, such as clay.  Students will be expected to bring art supplies as needed.

VISUAL ART 09: INTENSIVE (MVA09I)

Prerequisite: VA08I with a minimum of a “B” grade, or permission of the Fine Arts panel

Students not currently in the Intensive Fine Arts Program must complete a “Request to Enroll” form available from the counsellor.  This course is designed for students wishing to specialize in Art within the Fine Arts Intensive Program.  Students will continue to be challenged to develop their imagery and design skills to a greater depth.

VISUAL ARTS 10: GENERAL (MVAG10)

Visual Arts 10 introduces students to the elements and principles of design, historical and contemporary art movements and reasoned criticism.  Instruction will be given in a variety of media, including drawing, design, painting, printmaking, art history, and 3-D projects, such as clay.  Students will be expected to maintain a sketchbook and bring art supplies as needed.

VISUAL ARTS 10: INTENSIVE (MVA10I)

Prerequisite: VA09 Intensive with a minimum of a “B” grade, or permission of the Fine Arts panel

Students not currently in the Intensive Fine Arts Program must complete a “Request to Enroll” form available from the counsellor.  VA10 Intensive is a more advanced Art course designed for students specializing in Art within the Fine Arts Intensive Program. The course will develop themes started in earlier courses to a greater depth, and include previously unexplored areas of study.

ART FOUNDATIONS 11A (MAF11-I)

This is an introductory course designed for senior students with an interest in art.  The emphasis is on exploring a variety of areas, including drawing, design, printmaking, art history, colour and three-dimensional projects, such as clay.  Students will be expected to maintain a sketchbook and bring art supplies as needed.

 ART FOUNDATIONS 11 (MAF11)

Recommended: Any previous secondary art class

This is a comprehensive course designed to facilitate a broad range of experiences in 2-D and 3-D visual arts.  Students will create personal, meaningful images and develop critical thinking skills.  They will increase their level of sophistication, complexity and independence, as they explore a wide range of art forms.  Instruction will be given in a variety of media, including drawing, design, painting, printmaking, art history and 3-D projects, such as clay.  Students will be expected to maintain a sketchbook and bring art supplies as needed.

VISUAL ARTS 11 INTENSIVE (MAF11I)

Prerequisite: MVA10 Intensive with a minimum of a “B” grade, or permission of the Fine Arts panel.

Prerequisite:  MAF11

This course will build on the skills acquired in Art Foundations 11.  This is a comprehensive course designed to facilitate a broad range of experiences in 2-D and 3-D visual arts.  Students will create personal, meaningful images, increase their level of sophistication, complexity and independence, as they explore a wide range of art forms and develop critical thinking skills.  Instruction will be given in a variety of media, including drawing, design, painting, printmaking, art history and 3-D projects, such as clay.  Students will be expected to maintain a sketchbook and bring art supplies as needed.

VISUAL ARTS 12 INTENSIVE (MAF12I)

Prerequisite: MAF11 Intensive with a minimum of a “B” grade, or permission of the Fine Arts panel

Students not currently in the Intensive Fine Arts Program must complete a “Request to Enroll” form available from the counsellor.  VA 12 Intensive is an advanced senior level Art course designed for students specializing in Art within the Fine Arts Intensive Program. VA12 Intensive represents the final year of this five year Art Program.  Students will explore new and exciting image development and design strategies.  Students will explore new mediums and techniques.  Students will be encouraged to devote more time to developing their own A.P.I. (Authentic Personal Imagery).

STUDIO ARTS: PRINTMAKING AND GRAPHIC DESIGN 11 (MSAPG11)

Recommended:  Students have some art skills prior to this course

This course is designed for the student who wishes to explore skills necessary for a career in the graphic arts.  They will study advertising layout and calligraphy, design logos for business cards and stationary on the computer, using Adobe InDesign and Adobe PhotoshopCS3, design original packaging, create original fashion designs and work on a 3-D project such as shopping bags.  Students are expected to bring a sketchbook and other art materials as needed.

STUDIO ARTS: PRINTMAKING AND GRAPHIC DESIGN 12 (MSAPG12)                                            

Prerequisite: MSAPG11

This course explores in greater depth the concepts and skills introduced in Studio Arts: Printmaking and Graphic Design 11.  Students will be working on more advanced projects for their portfolio.  Projects such as personal stationary, restaurant or store design and book cover design, which may incorporate computer design, such as Adobe PhotoshopCS and Adobe InDesignCS3 or use other techniques such as pen and ink, watercolour or mixed media.  Students are expected to bring a sketchbook and other art materials as needed.

STUDIO ARTS: CERAMICS AND SCULPTURE 11 (MSACS11)

This course is designed to introduce the students to the creation of three-dimensional art pieces.  They will incorporate the elements and principles of design, using a variety of materials, which may include: soapstone, clay, wood, metal, paper mache, collage and found objects.  Students are expected to bring a sketchbook and other art materials as needed.

STUDIO ARTS: CERAMICS AND SCULPTURE 12 (MSACS12)

Prerequisite: MSACS11

This course explores in greater depth the concepts and skills introduced in Studio Arts: Ceramics and Sculpture 11.   Students will incorporate the elements and principles of design, using a variety of materials, which may include: soapstone, clay, wood, metal, paper mache, collage and found objects.   Students are expected to bring a sketchbook and other art materials as needed.

AP ART 12 (APAR12)

Students will have the opportunity to write the Advanced Placement Exam – a fee will be assessed, as well as project fees.
